FRIDAY

A sub par effort in the first period on Wednesday night in Lloydminster and the Pontiacs lose the season series to Bobcats.

Lloydminster used 3 powerplay chances to get out to a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. Adam Matlock and Brendan Turner both scored with the powerplay and David Dziurzynski scored just as Matthew Register was getting back into the play after serving his slashing penalty.

The Pontiacs tried to battle back making the score 3-2 early in the third but an undisciplined butt ending double minor taken by goaltender Tyler Pugh put Lloyd back on the powerplay where Micheal Winkel would restore the 2 goal lead.

Tyler Henry would make a beautiful backdoor pass to Matthew Register as Regi scored his 11th of the year to again pull the Pontiacs to within one with less than 3 minutes to go but Jared Jagow would ice it with an empty netter.

Poor starts for the Pontiacs have almost been as big a story as the number of man games lost to injuries this year.

Give credit to Lloydminster for creating their chances and then capitalizing.

Look for Blake Leask and Kevin Carthy to make it into the Pontiacs lineup tonight. Both are AP's. Leask played one game with the team already this year back on November 7th. Both Leask and Carthy are from Edmonton.

Derek Hutton from Sherwood Park has also been added to the Pontiacs roster and might make it into the lineup before the all star break.

The Pontiacs are 0-1-1-1 against the Spruce Grove Saints this year.

The Saints are currently ranked 2nd in the Country according to the CJHL rankings. Bonnyville has a pretty good record against teams who are nationally ranked. The Pontiacs beat Sherwood Park in back to back games when the Crusaders were the number one team in the country and this last weekend Bonnyville split with Grande Prairie with the Storm ranked 4th.

The Pontiacs did lose 6-3 to Brooks in December but I believe that was one week before the Bandits jumped to 12th in the rankings.

The Lloydminster Bobcats gave the Saints only their 6th regulation time loss on the season just last weekend and we heard from their play by play voice the blueprint for beating the top team in the league on B and R Eckles Pontiacs Hockey on Wednesday. Here's the recap.
